Trent Bridge, Nottingham: A Historic Cricket Ground Reaching Back to 1838 Nestled along the banks of the River Trent in Nottingham, England, lies Trent Bridge Cricket Ground - a historic and iconic venue that has been a cherished part of the cricket world for over 180 years. Established in 1838, Trent Bridge is the third oldest cricket ground in the world and the proud home of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. The rich history of Trent Bridge is evident in its time-honored pavilion and the lush, verdant outfield that has witnessed countless moments of cricket brilliance. The first Test match between England and Australia, held at Trent Bridge in 1899, ended in a draw, marking the beginning of a long and storied tradition of international cricket at this esteemed location. From the 1860s until 1910, Trent Bridge also served as the venue for football matches for Nottingham's two most prominent clubs, Notts County and Nottingham Forest. However, as their home grounds, Meadow Lane and the City Ground, respectively, came into being, cricket once again took center stage at Trent Bridge. This aerial photograph, taken by Jane Stone for Historic England, captures the essence of Trent Bridge in 2020 - a testament to the enduring legacy of cricket and its deep-rooted connection to the city of Nottingham. The image reveals the picturesque layout of the ground, with the River Trent meandering gently alongside, and the modern-day structures standing proudly against the backdrop of the historic pavilion. The presence of Meadow Lane and the City Ground in the distance serves as a reminder of the ground's multifaceted past, making Trent Bridge a truly unique and cherished piece of sporting history.
