EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Ramsgate Harbour in Thanet, Kent, dating back to the early 20th century. Taken between 1901 and 1937, this image showcases a general view of the bustling harbor from a north-western perspective. The scene unfolds with remarkable detail as it encompasses various elements that bring life to this seaside town. The focal point of the photograph is undoubtedly the harbor itself, adorned with an array of boats and ships gently swaying on its tranquil waters. Beyond the maritime spectacle lies a three-tiered road system leading towards the harbor's entrance. In the foreground, a tram gracefully glides along these roads, offering transportation between Margate, Ramsgate, and Broadstairs during its operational years. Operated by Electric Tramways and Lighting Co. Ltd. , these double-decker trams were open-top vehicles that allowed passengers to immerse themselves in their surroundings while traversing through this picturesque coastal landscape. Printed by Photochrom Co. Ltd. , renowned for their expertise in capturing vibrant colors through photography during that era; this postcard serves as both a historical artifact and an exquisite piece of artistry. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time, we are transported back to an era when Ramsgate Harbour was at its peak charm - where promenades thrived with activity and seafaring vessels embarked on adventures across vast oceans. This print truly encapsulates the timeless allure of one of England's most beloved coastal destinations.
