CORYTON OIL REFINERY, THURROCK, ESSEX. A portrait of a group of workmen employed on the IE&C extension contract at Coryton Oil Refinery. This image was published in the September 1980 edition of Laings monthly newsletter, Team Spirit.
In November 1979, Laing Industrial Engineering and Construction Ltd (also referred to as the IE&C team) started work on an extension to Coryton Oil Refinery. The residual upgrading of the refinery was carried out by Pullman-Kellogg, with Laing as sub-contractors. A huge amount of pipework had to be prefabricated and installed as part of the construction. Pipework also had to be connected from the existing refinery to the extension, which was a Fluidised Catalytic Cracker (FCC) plant
