EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Ian Pollard's ingenious creation, the Post Modern Homebase DP103881. Located at 195 Warwick Road in London's prestigious Kensington area, this architectural gem stood as a testament to Pollard's brief yet remarkable career as an architect and developer. With a keen eye for wit and irony, he infused his Egyptianate design with subtle nuances that delighted onlookers. The intricate detail showcased in this photograph focuses on the mesmerizing low-relief sculpture adorning the facade of Homebase. Drawing inspiration from ancient Egyptian artistry, Pollard skillfully incorporated elements such as hieroglyphics and symbolic motifs into his postmodern masterpiece. The result was a harmonious blend of contemporary aesthetics with historical references. Sadly, despite its undeniable charm and uniqueness, Homebase met an untimely demise when it was demolished in 2014. However, through Nigel Corrie's lens, we are granted a glimpse into its former glory - capturing not only the physical attributes but also evoking emotions associated with loss and nostalgia. This image serves as a reminder of how architecture can transcend time; it is both a reflection of our past and an inspiration for future creations. As we admire this extraordinary piece of post-war design history, let us appreciate Ian Pollard's vision and celebrate his contribution to London's architectural landscape.
