EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a DJ setup from the 1990s, featuring a set of six tweeters used as part of the audio equipment. Created by Also/Miyako Technology Co. , this unique piece exhibits their craftsmanship and innovation in sound technology during that era. The metal front plate, expertly crafted by Miyako, securely holds each tweeter with four screws, although one screw is noticeably absent. Through circular cut-outs in the plate, we can catch a glimpse of these powerful tweeters. Their conical shape is visible from the back, adorned with foam inserts placed between each speaker for optimal sound quality. Two metal fasteners attach red and black coated wires to the back of every tweeter. A fascinating detail lies at the base of each tweeter's cone - white text proudly displaying [MIYAKO], representing its manufacturer. Completing this intricate setup is a metal and plastic transistor attached to the last proper right tweeter. This photograph not only captures an important moment in music history but also highlights African American cultural heritage within DJing and audio technology. Preserved at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), it serves as a testament to both technological advancements and artistic expression within communities across America during that vibrant decade known as the nineties.
