This exquisite 18th century bird study depicts a Southern Fiscal (Lanius collaris), also known as the Brown Butcher Bird or Kanariebijter, perched on a branch. The bird hails from the Doornrivier region in South Africa and was meticulously rendered in chalk, ink, and watercolor by the Dutch artist Robert Jacob Gordon.
