Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was exiled by the Allied governments to Elba following his abdication at Fontainebleau and landed on the island on 4 May 1814. Only nine months later, he escaped with his miniature army of only 400 men and landed in France. The 100 Days Campaign against the Bourbons had begun. Here, he is welcomed by his countrymen as he announces his plan to save France and retrieve the Imperial Throne
