EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases two influential women from different eras, Margaret, Princess of Wales in 1410 and Joice, Lady Tiptoft in 1460. The artist behind this masterpiece is Herbert Norris, who beautifully captures the essence of these historical figures. Margaret Hanmer, wife of Owain Glyndwr and the last native Welshman to hold the title Prince of Wales, exudes strength and regality in her medieval robes. Her presence speaks volumes about her role as a Welsh ruler during a significant period in history. Joice Tiptoft, on the other hand, radiates elegance and sophistication as she stands beside her husband John Tiptoft. As a Knight of the Shire for Huntingdonshire and Somerset, Speaker of the House of Commons, Treasurer of the Household, Chief Butler of England, Treasurer of the Exchequer and Seneschal of Landes and Aquitaine - Joice's accomplishments are truly remarkable. The print not only captures their striking appearances but also provides insight into their respective roles within society.
