EDITORS COMMENTS
Kasumigaseki" is a stunning 19th century woodblock print by the renowned Japanese artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, published in 1834 as part of his "Famous Views of the Eastern Capital" series. The print depicts a bustling street scene in Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan, during the Edo and Tokugawa periods. Four figures, two men and two women, are shown dressed in traditional Japanese clothing, with intricate kimonos and colorful obi sashes. The men wear hakama, a type of trouser worn with a kimono, while the women's kimonos are adorned with elegant patterns and designs. One woman holds a parasol to shield herself from the sun, while an attendant carries a cart filled with accessories and apparel. The print showcases the vibrant colors and intricate details of Japanese fashion during this era, as well as the use of perspective to create a sense of depth and three-dimensionality. The street scene is filled with pedestrians, both men and women, making their way along the road, and various modes of transportation such as carts and carts being used for transport. The print is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Japan during the Edo and Tokugawa periods, and is a valuable addition to any collection of Asian or heritage art. It is currently housed in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where it is admired by visitors from around the world for its beauty and historical significance.
