Jeanne Hachette, French heroine, 1894. Jeanne Hachette is remembered for her act of heroism on 27th June 1472, when she saved the town of Beauvais when it was on the point of being taken by the troops of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. When one of the Burgundian troops planted their flag on the battlements, Jeanne pushed him into the moat and tore down the flag, decisively restoring the flagging morale of the towns defenders in the process.
