Henry Tamworth Wells, portrait-painter, 1878. After the death of Ross and the retirement of Thorburn, Wells became the most important miniature painter of his time. One of his most popular works was a painting of Queen Victoria, as princess, exhibited in 1880 as Victoria Regina.
