Georg Simon Ohm, 19th century German physicist, 1906

Georg Simon Ohm, 19th century German physicist, 1906. Ohm (1787-1854) discovered the law governing the relationships between voltage resistance and electric currents. His Ohms Law states that the relationship of current through most materials is directly proportional to the potential difference applied across the material (V=IR). This was published in his book Die galvanische Kette, mathematische bearbeitet in 1827, in which he gave his theory of electricity. The Standard International unit of electrical resistivity, the ohm, is named after him. From A travers l Electricite (About Electricity) by Georges Dary. (Paris, 1906)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the image of Georg Simon Ohm, a renowned 19th century German physicist. Taken in 1906, this portrait showcases the man behind one of the most fundamental laws in electricity - Ohm's Law. Ohm's groundbreaking discovery established a relationship between voltage, resistance, and electric currents. His theory states that the current flowing through most materials is directly proportional to the potential difference applied across them (V=IR). This revolutionary concept was published in his book "Die galvanische Kette, mathematische bearbeitet" in 1827. Georg Simon Ohm's contributions to science were so significant that he became immortalized by having the standard unit of electrical resistivity named after him - ohms. His work laid the foundation for countless advancements in physics and electrical engineering. In this monochrome engraving from "A travers l'Electricite" by Georges Dary, we see a distinguished-looking man who dedicated his life to unraveling the mysteries of electricity. With his intense gaze and scholarly demeanor, Georg Simon Ohm stands as an icon among famous scientists. As we admire this image, let us remember how individuals like Ohm have shaped our understanding of the world around us through their tireless pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
