In this portrait, taken in 1872, we see a distinguished man wearing his military headgear with pride and determination. Ellsworth's story is one that resonates deeply within the hearts of Americans. Born in 1837, he was not only a soldier but also a young Chicago clerk who played an instrumental role in organizing a company of Zouaves for the Union Army at the onset of the Civil War.
