Harrogate Ladies College

A girls school in a castle: Harrogate College's pleasant retreat at Lord Swinton's residence near Ripon, Yorkshire at the beginning of World War II. The school was evacuated to Swinton Park during the second world war, returning to it's premises after 1945

South Elmsall, West Yorkshire. The town is most famous for its coal-mining past; it was the site of Frickley Colliery, which was one of the largest in the whole country and a key source of union radicalism during the UK Miners Strike (1984-1985). There were numerous disturbances in the area as a result. Date: circa 1910s

Hannah Hauxwell - English farmer

Hannah Hauxwell, 1926 ? 2018, was an English farmer who was the subject of several television documentaries. She first came to public attention after being covered in an ITV documentary, Too Long a Winter, made by Yorkshire Television. First published The Sunday Times Date: 1991
