Valmondois, a picturesque village located near Butry, has been an inspiration for many artists throughout history. One such artist is Charles Francois Daubigny, who captured the beauty in his oil on canvas painting titled "Clair de Lune a Valmondois" created between 1840 and 1875 but not published until 1924. In another artistic depiction of Valmondois, we find ourselves transported to the events that unfolded on Rue Transnonain le 15 Avril 1834. Plate 24 of l'Association mensuelle showcases Mr Vieux-Niais's publication called La Caricature no. 134, shedding light on this historical event. The world of caricatures continues with "Un Candidat, " plate 48 from the series Caricaturana. This satirical piece was published and enjoyed by many during its time. Even Victor Hugo himself found inspiration in Valmondois as seen in his lithograph sheet dated July 20th, 1849. The intricate details measuring at approximately14 and five-sixteenths inches by nine and fifteen-sixteenths inches make it a remarkable piece. Moving away from political satire and towards everyday life, we encounter "Un chapeau neuf, " plate 45 from the series Les beaux jours de la vie (The Beautiful Days of Life). This artwork captures moments that resonate with people across generations. As we delve further into artistry inspired by Valmondois, we come across sketches like "Man Reading Garden. " On one side lies the preliminary sketch while on the other side reveals an intriguing verso waiting to be explored. Not limited to paintings alone, it also finds itself immortalized through other mediums like woodwork. An example is found in an oil-on-wood masterpiece titled "Laundress" dating back to around1863.
