The quolls of Australia are a fascinating and diverse group of marsupials. One such species is the Spotted-tailed Quoll, found in Tasmania. With its distinctive spotted fur, it is a true icon of the island state. Picture No. 10766729 captures the beauty and grace of this elusive creature. Another member of the quoll family is the Tiger Quoll, also known as Dasyurus maculatus. This adult specimen was photographed near Loongana, Tasmania in February while feeding at night. Its sharp teeth and powerful jaws make it a formidable predator in its habitat. Venturing further north to New Guinea, we find another intriguing quoll species called the New Guinea Dasyure or Marsupial Cat. Though smaller in size compared to its Australian relatives, this little carnivore possesses remarkable agility and hunting skills. Moving back to mainland Australia, we encounter the Northern Quoll HB 2663 Mareebe from North Queensland captured by Hans & Judy Beste / ARDEA LONDON. The vibrant image showcases this small but mighty creature with its captivating gaze. Returning to Tasmania once more, we come across two stunning photographs: one featuring the Spotted-tailed Quoll/Tiger Cat (JPF03029) and another showcasing just how beautiful Eastern Australia's Spotted-tailed they are be (JPF00470). Finally, we have several images capturing different aspects of life for Northern Quolls in their native habitat up north: an open-mouthed portrait (JPF28936), a close-up portrait (JPF28925), as well as two photos showing them stretched out on their hind legs (JPF28984 & JPF28985). These pictures offer glimpses into their unique behaviors and physical characteristics. These various snapshots provide us with a glimpse into the world - from Tasmania to New Guinea and all across northern Australia - showcasing their beauty, diversity, and the importance of conserving these unique marsupials.
