Presbytis, also known as the Thomass Langur, is an incredible animal endemic to northern Sumatra. With its striking appearance and unique behaviors, this species has captured the attention of researchers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. One particular subspecies of Presbytis, the Red leaf monkey (Presbytis rubicunda), can be found in Danum Valley, Sabah, Borneo. Here, a mother and baby duo roam freely through the lush rainforest. Their vibrant orange fur stands out against the green understorey as they gracefully swing from branch to branch. Another variation of this remarkable langur is the Orange backed red langur (Presbytis rubicunda chrysea). These stunning creatures call Danum Valley their home too. In Malaysia's Borneo region, they thrive amidst dense foliage and towering trees. The young banded langur (Presbytis femoralis) showcases its playful nature while exploring its surroundings. This adorable primate captivates hearts with its innocent gaze and endearing antics. Sadly, some members of the Presbytis family are endangered species like the Silvery lutung and Sumatran surili. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect these magnificent creatures from further decline in population numbers. Amongst them is another endangered species called Sumatran surili (Presbytis melalophos). Its survival hangs by a thread as it battles habitat loss and human encroachment on its natural environment. In Danum Valley's treetops, a Maroon/Red leaf monkey/Langur indulges in delicious fruits that dangle temptingly from branches above. The sight of these primates feasting on nature's bounty reminds us of their vital role in seed dispersal within their ecosystem. A female Red leaf monkey finds nourishment in a Strangler fig tree (Ficus), showcasing her resourcefulness as she carefully selects her meal.
