Poaching, a ruthless act that threatens the delicate balance of our natural world. From the captivating Ghost Orchid, immortalized by Susan Orleans in her compelling work, to the heart-wrenching tale of Dendrophylax lindenii's plight, it has left an indelible mark on our environment. In W. Heath Robinson's "Fishy. " we are confronted with the grim reality of this illicit trade as fire engulfs heaps of ivory and rhino horn - a devastating loss for these majestic creatures. The image of a young poacher caught red-handed serves as a stark reminder that this issue knows no boundaries or age limits. Yet amidst the darkness, there is hope. Five orphaned white rhinoceros calves find solace in feeding after being rescued from poaching-inflicted tragedy. Their survival stands as a testament to resilience and human intervention. The scarred face of another white rhinoceros tells a different story; one of survival against all odds after enduring an attack by merciless poachers. This brave creature symbolizes both the brutality faced by wildlife and their unwavering spirit to persevere. Traveling back in time through Yan Dargent's evocative engravings, we witness scenes frozen in history: poachers trudging through snow-covered landscapes in pursuit of their ill-gotten gains. These images serve as haunting reminders that this problem spans centuries. In present times too, authorities seize batches upon batches of elephant tusks confiscated from traffickers who profit off these magnificent animals' demise. Each batch represents countless lives lost and ecosystems disrupted - an urgent call for action echoing through each photograph captured. But it is not only land-dwelling creatures who suffer at the hands of greed; marine life also falls victim to relentless exploitation. In Yan Dargent's engravings depicting shark fishing scenes, we see men posing triumphantly atop failed attempts at dominance over nature's apex predators.
