Pieter de Jode the Younger was a talented Flemish printmaker, draughtsman, publisher, and painter who lived from 1606 to 1674. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Pieter de Jode the Elder, who was also an accomplished artist. One of Pieter de Jode the Younger's notable works is Plate 35: Philip of Spain as Neptune, riding in a chariot drawn by two sea horses. This intricate piece showcases his skill in capturing both detail and movement. In addition to this mythological scene, De Jode II was known for his portraits. One such portrait is that of Jacques Jordaens, a renowned Flemish painter known for his history paintings and genre scenes. De Jode II's ability to capture the essence and personality of his subjects is evident in this striking portrayal. Another masterpiece attributed to De Jode II is The Three Graces series created between 1630-1674. These exquisite prints depict three female figures representing beauty, charm, and grace - qualities often associated with classical mythology. De Jode II also ventured into religious themes like The Holy Family at right with the infant Saint John the Baptist alongside Elizabeth and Zacharias. His attention to detail brings these biblical characters to life on paper. Not limited to portraiture or mythology alone, De Jode II explored various genres including allegorical scenes like Allegory of Good Government where he depicted a figure being crowned by putti and women symbolizing prosperity and harmony. His versatility extended even further as seen in A Fool with an Owl and a Woman at a Window; here he captured everyday life moments with humor and whimsy. De Jode II's talent did not go unnoticed by royalty either; he painted Portrait of Isabella Clara Eugenia Infanta of Spain around 1650 along with other regal figures such as Philip III King of Spain during the same period.
