Alongside Roger Luckman and Gary Radcliffe, he formed an unstoppable trio that dominated the 1980 Senior Manx Grand Prix. His journey began earlier when he competed in the 1978 Junior Manx Grand Prix with Wilson and Collins Yamaha. The following year saw him take on a new challenge as a Travelling Marshal during the prestigious 1983 Manx Grand Prix while riding a Honda bike. Throughout his career, Mike's love for Yamaha motorcycles was evident. He conquered Jurby Road in both 1975 and 1976 alongside fellow rider Des Connor. The Southern 100 race witnessed his triumph astride a Yamaha bike in 1978. However, it was at the Junior Manx Grand Prix where Mike truly shone. In both 1980 and again in subsequent years, he showcased unmatched skill aboard Yamaha bikes that earned him well-deserved accolades from fans worldwide. Not limited to just one brand or event, Mike's versatility extended to Suzuki motorcycles too. In the highly competitive Senior Manx Grand Prix of 1980, he fearlessly rode a Suzuki machine with unparalleled finesse. Jurby Road became synonymous with Mike's victories over time; it was there that he claimed victory astride a Yamaha bike once more in 1979 before repeating this success at subsequent events such as the Junior Manx Grand Prix held in various years.
