John Gay was an English poet and dramatist known for his ballad operas, including "The Beggars Opera. " In 1762, Mr. Joseph Vernon portrayed the infamous Mackheath in one of Gay's most famous works at Drury Lane Theatre. The opera was a sensation and continues to be performed today. Another notable production of Gay's work was "Polly, " where Miss Ann Brown took on the role of Polly in this captivating ballad opera. Aside from his theatrical contributions, it also had a passion for motorcycle racing. In 1974 and 1975, Pete Tyack partnered with John Gay to compete in the Sidecar TT races aboard their Triumph motorcycles.
