"Highsmith: Capturing the Essence of American History and Culture" From Booker T. Washington's inspiring image, "Lifting the Veil, " to Ian Dury's catchy tune, "Hey Hey Mobile, " Carol M. Highsmith's lens has immortalized a diverse range of moments in time. In the early 1990s, Highsmith documented the rise of computer technology at Washington's headquarters building, showcasing its potential through vibrant images of bustling computer labs and training rooms. Her photographs from this era capture not only the evolution of technology but also its impact on education and office spaces. Highsmith's keen eye for detail extends beyond computers; she also captured scenes such as data storage in office buildings during the mid-1980s. These snapshots serve as a reminder of how rapidly our world has transformed due to technological advancements. Moving away from technology, Highsmith beautifully portrays Herschel Levit's Crispus Attucks mural at the Recorder of Deeds building, paying homage to an important figure in American history.
