Gudgeons, a fascinating species of fish, have been captured beautifully in lithographs dating back to 1878. Picture No. 11051731 and Picture No. 11051708 showcase the intricate details of these creatures, highlighting their unique characteristics. One particular type of gudgeon that has gained attention is the Topmouth Gudgeon (Pseudorasbora parva), an introduced invasive species found in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. The adult Topmouth Gudgeon can be observed swimming gracefully in tanks, with close-up shots capturing the intricacies of its head. In their natural habitat, they can often seen shoaling over gravel streambeds or feeding on riverbeds. In May, shoals of Gobio gobio adults were spotted swimming elegantly over a gravel streambed in Nottinghamshire's River Greet. These peaceful scenes come alive during August when gudgeons gather to feed on riverbeds. The beauty and diversity extend beyond still waters; they thrive even in flowing rivers like River Greet where an adult was spotted swimming freely amidst the currents in March. However, it is important to note that not all they can native to these regions. The Topmouth Gudgeon has become an invasive species after being introduced into local fishery tanks. This serves as a reminder of how human actions can disrupt ecosystems and impact native wildlife populations negatively. Photographer Pat Morris captures stunning images showcasing both European freshwater Gobio gobio and British shoal fresh water varieties such as those found in Britain and Europe's streams and rivers from China to Britain. From lithographs dating back centuries ago to modern-day photographs by Pat Morris, these captivating visuals provide us with glimpses into the world - their habitats, behaviors, and even the challenges they face due to human intervention.
