"Exploring the Genoese Legacy: From Bactrian Camels to Engraved Tales" Discovering the rich history of the Genoese takes us on a captivating journey through time and diverse lands. Picture yourself in Ukraine, where remnants of their influence can be found in the majestic Genoese fortress of Sudak, standing proudly against the Crimean backdrop. As we delve deeper into history, our attention turns to Christopher Columbus, an iconic figure whose roots trace back to this vibrant city-state. A colored engraving depicts his eventful life, from his birth in 1451 to his fateful death in 1506. It was during these years that Columbus embarked on his legendary voyages across uncharted seas. But it is not just distant shores that bear witness to Genoa's impact; Istanbul's Pera and Galata districts stand as living testaments to their architectural prowess. The Galata Tower looms over Constantinople, a symbol of strength and ingenuity that has withstood the test of time. Traveling further south brings us to Tunisia, where an Anglo-French attack on Tunis unfolded in 1390. This clash highlights how even beyond their borders, the Genoese left an indelible mark on world events. Back in Turkey lies another gem – Castle of Yoros at Anadolu Kavagi – guarding Istanbul's strategic entrance by sea. Its walls whisper tales of battles fought and won by those who sought control over this vital waterway connecting East and West. Returning once more to Sudak reveals yet another chapter in the Genoese saga – L'Uccello captured. This Algerian corsair xebec fell prey to their naval might as they safeguarded trade routes along Mediterranean shores. Finally, we find ourselves transported back centuries ago when Christopher Columbus stood before Spain's Council at Salamanca in 1487. Here he passionately advocated for his ambitious plans to reach the Indies, forever changing the course of history.
