"Fur Muff: A Timeless Fashion Accessory Through the Ages" Step into the world of fashion history with a glimpse at the iconic fur muff. From the elegant era of Marie Antoinette to the vibrant streets of Paris, this accessory has graced many fashionable ensembles throughout time. In 1814, as Napoleon's reign came to an end, a woman donning a fur-lined coat and clutching her muff visited the Tatar and Kalmyk Cossack bivouacs on Champs Elysees. The scene captured in a handcoloured lithograph by R. V showcases both style and resilience. Fast forward to 1835 when winter fashions were showcased in B Read's publication. Amongst these trends was the fur muff, providing warmth and sophistication during chilly months. Its popularity continued through generations as seen in illustrations from Nikolaus Heideloff's work depicting morning dresses from 1797. The allure of muffs extended beyond clothing; they became symbols of leisurely activities too. In 1893 and 1898, children enjoyed promenades in Luxembourg Gardens while holding onto their furry companions for comfort amidst playfulness. Parisian life also found its way onto Pont Neuf where booths lined up in 1844 and again in 1898 according to lithographs capturing scenes from different eras. Amidst bustling crowds, women could be spotted flaunting their large fur muffs - an embodiment of elegance against the backdrop of city life. Even artistic representations celebrated this timeless accessory. A hand-coloured stereoscopic daguerreotype dating back to 1850 portrayed a nude woman standing before a mirror adorned with shoes, stockings, and yes, even a hair band complemented by her trusty fur muff. Not limited to just adults' fashion choices, young boys and girls embraced muffs too.
