Francesco Albani, also known as Albano, was an Italian Baroque painter who left a lasting impact on the art world during his active years in Bologna, Rome, and Florence from 1578 to 1660. One of his notable works is "Virgin and Child Adored by Saint Francis, " created around 1606/07. This masterpiece showcases Albani's exceptional talent in capturing religious themes with delicate brushstrokes and vibrant colors. Another remarkable piece associated with this era is "Plate 8: The Baptism of Christ" by Giuseppe Maria Mitelli in 1678. Although not directly painted by Francesco Albani himself, it reflects the influence he had on other artists of that time. In addition to religious subjects, Albani also explored mythological themes like "Amorini Celebrate the Rape of Proserpina, " engraved by Francesco Rosaspina between 1805-12. This artwork demonstrates how Albani's style continued to inspire generations even after his passing. One can't help but mention Gilles Rousselet's "Ecce Homo with three angels" from 1634-86 when discussing artworks related to Francesco Albani. It portrays a powerful scene depicting Christ before his crucifixion while being observed by three heavenly beings. Moreover, one cannot overlook the beauty found within pieces such as "The Annunciation" or the folding fan featuring "Adonis Led by Cupids to Venus. " These showcase both divine and romantic aspects present throughout many of Albani's works. Although some engravings attributed to him may be disputed due to their uncertain origins like Cignani (1628-1719) or Cariani's (Giovanni ca. 1485-1547) portrait titled "Francesco Albani c. 1520, " they still serve as testaments to his enduring legacy.
