"Femme Fatale: Unveiling the Seductive Power of Women through Art" Step into a world where allure and danger intertwine, as BFI Southbank presents the captivating "Screen Seductresses Season" in March 2009. This poster invites you to explore the enigmatic realm of femme fatales, those irresistible sirens who have bewitched audiences for centuries. From Judith's mesmerizing gaze in her 1901 oil on canvas portrait to the sultry homage paid to Harlow in an exquisite oil on linen masterpiece, this exhibition delves deep into the artistry behind these iconic figures. Samson Betrayed tells a tale of treachery and seduction through its vividly painted oil on canvas scene, while The Loving Cup study captures fleeting moments of passion with delicate pencil strokes. Le Petit Journal's print showcases The Humbert Family at the Crown Court, transporting us back to August 1903 when scandalous trials unfolded before our very eyes. Meanwhile, Leo Delibes' costume design for Discord in Ballet Coppelia reveals how even dance can embody feminine mystique with gouache on paper. The Parisian Sphinx captivates us further with its alluring portrayal of a woman shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Judith returns once more, this time depicted on an oil panel that exudes both strength and sensuality. Adam and Eve take center stage as they navigate temptation within their timeless love story captured meticulously on wood. Mrs. Jane Gibbs' engraving transports us back to 1799 when she appeared before a magistrate - her image forever etched as evidence of her own allure or perhaps her downfall? Lastly, Aimee Cecile Renault enchants us from an engraved page within Histoire de la Revolution Francaise by Louis Blanc; her beauty immortalized for generations to come. Join us at BFI Southbank as we unravel the secrets held by these beguiling women, celebrating their power to captivate and enthrall.
