Emmanuel Fremiet (1824-1910): A French sculptor renowned for his captivating animal and mythological figures. Known works include the "Pelican" (1896, with Emile Muller), "Bull" (about 1896), and "Saint George Slaying the Dragon" (1871). Fremiet's dynamic and lifelike sculptures, such as the equestrian statues of Louis of Orleans (1869) and Joan of Arc (c. 1889-1899), continue to inspire awe. Black and white images of Fremiet from the late 19th century show a dedicated artist at work. Notably, Fremiet also created "Joan of Arc on Horseback" (1889-1899), which is now a gilded masterpiece. His oil painting, "The Eiffel Tower and the Elephant," showcases Fremiet's versatility as an artist.
