Elijah: A Visionary Leader and Symbol of Strength Elijah Muhammad, an influential African American leader, dedicated his life to the Nation of Islam. Born in 1897 and passing away in 1975, he left a lasting impact on the civil rights movement. Just as Raphael's Transfiguration painting from 1517 depicts Jesus surrounded by Moses and Elijah, Elijah Muhammad stood as a guiding light for many. In Nazareth, Galilee, Israel lies a Melkite icon of Elijah. This sacred image represents his significance not only in African American history but also in the Middle East. Similarly, Raphael's fresco showcases Christ vested in white with Moses and Elijah below him alongside apostles John, Peter, and James – a powerful depiction of divine presence. The story of "Elijah and the Ravens" further illustrates his resilience. Like this colored engraving portrays, he found sustenance even amidst adversity. His unwavering faith allowed him to overcome challenges just as Christ did during The Transfiguration painted by Raphael between 1516-1520. Mir Sayyid Ali's artwork titled "The Prophet Elijah rescuing Prince Nur ad-Dahr" captures another facet of this remarkable figure's legacy. It reflects how he extended compassion beyond religious boundaries while leading the Nation of Islam. Not limited to spiritual realms alone is Elijah's influence; historical records show that an angel appeared before him just as it did during biblical times. These encounters served as sources of strength for both him and those who followed his teachings. Beyond religious contexts lies yet another aspect of Elijah’s life - athleticism. In c1875 lithograph featuring the Paris Crew rowing team from Saint John, New Brunswick consists four members including Robert Fulton George Price Samuel Hutton along with none other than our protagonist - Elijah Ross himself.
