The chicane, a term synonymous with thrilling racing moments and heart-pounding excitement. From the RAC Tourist Trophy race at Goodwood in Sussex in 1958 to the Estoril Chicane, this iconic feature has witnessed some of the most memorable moments in motorsport history. In 1958, Duncan Hamilton showcased his skill behind the wheel of a Jaguar D type as he navigated through the twists and turns of Goodwood's chicane during the RAC Tourist Trophy race. The roar of engines filled the air as spectators held their breath, captivated by Hamilton's daring maneuvers. Fast forward to 1961 at Goodwood B. A. R. C. , where an MG A twin cam driven by Olthoff tackled the chicane with precision and finesse. The unknown creator captured this moment perfectly, immortalizing it for generations to come. But it wasn't just high-performance sports cars that graced these chicanes; even humble classics like the 1952 Morris Minor MM Convertible made their mark on Brighton Rally at Goodwood. With its top down and wind blowing through its occupants' hair, this vintage beauty added charm to an already exhilarating event. The swinging sixties brought about new challenges for drivers, as seen when a Morris Mini skidded through Goodwood's chicane in 1961. This candid shot by an unknown creator encapsulated both the thrill and unpredictability that came with navigating these twisting obstacles. Traveling back further in time takes us to Brooklands in Surrey during 1939. Talbot saloons competed fiercely in JCC Rally against a backdrop painted by Bill Brunell himself - showcasing not only speed but also artistry intertwined within motorsport culture. ERA and Maserati took center stage at Brooklands during either 1938 or 1939 when they raced side-by-side through its famous chicane. Bill Brunell once again captured this historic moment, immortalizing the fierce competition and showcasing the beauty of these iconic racing machines.
