"Balthazar: A Tapestry of Adoration and Wonder" Step into the enchanting world of Balthazar, a captivating figure woven into the fabric of history. This tapestry, known as "Balthazar, " is a masterpiece that transports us back to 1512 in France. Crafted meticulously with wool, it tells the timeless story of the Circumcision and Adoration of the Magi. The journey begins with "The Adoration of the Magi" from c. 1460, painted delicately on wood using tempera and gold. Its vibrant colors bring to life this sacred moment when wise men paid homage to baby Jesus. Moving forward in time, we encounter "MS. McClean. 81. f68r Adoration of the Magi, " an exquisite French Horae manuscript from the 15th century on velvety vellum pages. As we explore further, our eyes are drawn to another treasure - "MS. McClean. 80. f69r Adoration of the Magi. " This French Horae manuscript captivates with its intricate details and illuminations that breathe life onto every page. But Balthazar's presence extends beyond manuscripts; he emerges through different artistic mediums throughout centuries. In "The Three Kings, " depicted in pencil and watercolor on paper, his image resonates powerfully even in simplicity. Intriguingly, Balthazar appears within Jan Floreins' triptych panels from 1479 – both as a central focus and part of a larger narrative unfolding before our eyes through oil paintings on wooden panels. Moving away from traditional art forms but no less mesmerizing is an illustration titled "As he fell, the Prince cried out 'O my God have mercy upon my soul', " extracted from Romance of History: The Netherlands (1920s). Rendered beautifully through color lithography techniques, it captures Balthazar's dramatic fall while evoking a sense of divine intervention.
