The Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) is a stunning damselfly species that can be found in various locations, including the Lower Tamar Lakes in Cornwall, UK. This male specimen is captured resting on a grass head, showcasing its vibrant colors and intricate wing patterns. In another shot, it perches gracefully on a dew-covered reed, creating a mesmerizing scene. The delicate creature also finds solace on a buttercup, adding a touch of beauty to the landscape. A close-up detail of its head and thorax reveals the remarkable features that make this species so captivating. These males are often seen resting together on grasses during August in the Netherlands. Their wings and body become an abstract study when observed up close at Tamar Lakes in June. In July, amidst soft focus surroundings, we witness this male Banded Demoiselle roosting among grasses with its body and wings beautifully displayed. Silhouetted against the sun reflected in water during May's golden hour creates an enchanting sight as it rests upon a reed. Nature provides yet another picturesque setting as this male demoiselle poses elegantly on a fern at Lower Tamar Lakes. Meanwhile, female specimens find their own haven amongst reeds for relaxation. Silhouetted against tall grasses once again captures these magnificent creatures' gracefulness while they rest peacefully. Finally, our last image showcases one of these striking males perched delicately atop yellow lotus flowers (Nuphar lutea) found in Norfolk.
