Step back in time to the bustling streets of London in the early 20th century. The Royal London Hospital stands tall in Whitechapel, a beacon of hope amidst the busy cityscape. Down Lambeth Way, the famous Lambeth Walk is abuzz with excitement as they prepare to purchase their very own Spitfire aircraft, a symbol of strength and resilience. On Epsom Downs, during race meetings at the iconic Epsom Racecourse, a Romany gypsy family finds solace and community. Their caravans dotting the landscape create a picturesque scene against the backdrop of thrilling horse races. A gypsy woman sits gracefully on her caravan steps, her pipe emitting fragrant smoke that dances with nostalgia. In Edwardian London, an open-topped omnibus glides past Temple Bar, transporting passengers through time and space. Meanwhile, Newtons rents off Twine Court in Shadwell reveal one of Stepney's darkest slums - a stark reminder of societal inequalities that plagued this era. Traveling further south to Charing in Kent, we meet Harry (Heathfield) the Hedger wielding his felling axe with precision and determination. His work embodies both tradition and progress as he shapes nature's beauty into functional structures. From land to sea, Saltburn by the Sea welcomes us with open arms. Here we find a group of fishermen who rely on its bountiful waters for their livelihoods - an age-old occupation passed down through generations. Returning once more to Epsom Races where Romany gypsy families gather eagerly for late 1940s or early 1950s festivities. Caravans line up like colorful puzzle pieces forming their own unique mosaic on Epsom Downs - an enchanting sight that captures both tradition and celebration. The 20th century was an era filled with contrasting scenes; from bustling city streets to tranquil countryside landscapes; from opulent racecourses to the humble abodes of gypsy families.
