The 1910s were a time of great change and upheaval, both in the UK and around the world. As World War I loomed on the horizon, Lord Kitchener's iconic "Your Country Needs You" recruitment campaign echoed through the streets, urging men to join the fight for their country. The propaganda slogans became synonymous with this era, as patriotism surged and young men answered the call to arms. Meanwhile, in the entertainment industry, Barbra Streisand dazzled audiences in her roller skates during her performance in "Funny Girl" - a film that brought to life the story of American comedienne Fanny Brice. This cinematic masterpiece captured hearts and showcased Streisand's immense talent. In Gloucestershire, picturesque scenes unfolded at Winchcombe Station and Footbridge as well as Moreton-in-Marsh Station. These snapshots from c. 1910 transport us back to a simpler time when steam trains chugged along their tracks amidst stunning countryside landscapes. Their determination paved the way for progress towards gender equality. Amidst political movements and social change, advertisements played a significant role in shaping popular culture. Ushers Scotch whiskey adverts enticed consumers with promises of quality spirits while La Vie Parisienne magazines transported readers into a world of glamourous baths adorned with fashionable bathing hats by Cheri Herouard. As we delve further into this captivating period through photographs like Shambles CC76_00555 or Didcot Station and Signal Box in Oxfordshire circa 1910 or Platform 1 at Paddington Station from that same era (Picture No. 11981750), we are reminded of how much has changed since then but also how some elements have remained timeless.
