Images in this collection include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. The word Angkor is derived from the Sanskrit nagara, meaning "city". Angkor was the capital city of the Khmer Empire which flourished from approximately the 9th to the 15th centuries. Today it is one of the most important archeological sites in South-East Asia stretching over 400 km2. The Archeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century.
