Closeup of a single sunflower in a sunflower field, England

Single sunflower in a sunflower field.
The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an living annual plant in the family Asteraceae, with a large flower head (capitulum). The stem of the flower can grow up to 3 metres tall, with a flower head that can be 30 cm wide. Other types of sunflowers include the California Royal Sunflower, which has a burgundy (red + purple) flower head.
The flower head is actually an inflorescence made of hundreds or thousands of tiny flowers called florets. The central florets look like the centre of a normal flower, and the outer florets look like yellow petals. All together they make up a " false flower" or pseudanthium. The benefit to the plant is that it is very easily seen by the insects and birds which pollinate it, and it produces thousands of seeds

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the beauty of a single sunflower standing tall in a vast sunflower field in England. The vibrant yellow petals of the sunflower, scientifically known as Helianthus annuus, create a striking contrast against the green backdrop of the field. With its large flower head, measuring up to 30 cm wide, and a stem that can grow up to 3 meters tall, this particular sunflower is truly magnificent. The California Royal Sunflower is another variety mentioned in this caption, boasting a unique burgundy-colored flower head. However, it is the structure of the sunflower's inflorescence that truly fascinates. Made up of hundreds or even thousands of tiny flowers called florets, it forms what appears to be a single flower head but is actually referred to as a "false flower" or pseudanthium. This design serves an important purpose for the plant as it attracts pollinators such as insects and birds. Captured by Inga Rasmussen and available at Fine Art Storehouse, this print showcases nature's intricate details and reminds us of the incredible diversity found within our natural world. Whether displayed on its own or among other botanical prints, this closeup image will surely bring warmth and vibrancy into any space it adorns.
