Chefchauen, is a city of Morocco, located in the northwest of the country, in the foothills of the Rif mountains, near Tetouan. It has about 35, 700 inhabitants. It was founded in 1471 on the site of a small Berber town. Its original population was composed mainly of exiles of al-Andalus, both Muslims and Jews. The facades of their houses are painted mostly blue, especially the lower part.
