EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the timeless beauty of the Dungeness Lighthouse against a dramatic backdrop of vivid clouds. The dark-colored lighthouse stands proudly, its historic significance evident in every detail. Designated as a Grade II building by Shepway District Council in 1992, this architectural gem recently celebrated its centenary. The Old Lighthouse holds a remarkable history, having been inaugurated with great pomp and ceremony by none other than the Prince of Wales himself in 1904. After three years of construction, it became an essential guiding light for ships navigating the treacherous waters of the English Channel. Withstanding two world wars, it faithfully served its purpose until decommissioned in 1960. For over half a century, this iconic landmark provided solace and safety to countless vessels traversing these perilous seas. Its enduring presence has made it an integral part of Kent's architectural heritage and earned it recognition in Nikolaus Pevsner's renowned "Buildings of Kent". Through Steve Stringer Photography's lens, we are transported to a moment frozen in time – where past meets present and nature converges with human ingenuity. This print is not just an exquisite piece of art but also a testament to the resilience and endurance that define our collective history.
