Obelisk Cleopatras Needle on the Thames Embrankment

" Vintage egraving of Obelisk Cleopatras Needle on the Thames Embrankment. It was presented to the United Kingdom in 1819 by Mehemet Ali, the Albanian-born viceroy of Egypt, in commemoration of the victories of Lord Nelson at the Battle of the Nile and Sir Ralph Abercromby at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801. Although the British government welcomed the gesture, it declined to fund the expense of transporting it to London. It was originally erected in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis on the orders of Thutmose III, around 1450 BC."

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage engraving captures the majestic Obelisk Cleopatra's Needle on the Thames Embankment, a symbol of ancient history and civilization. Presented to the United Kingdom in 1819 by Mehemet Ali, the viceroy of Egypt, it commemorates the remarkable victories of Lord Nelson at the Battle of the Nile and Sir Ralph Abercromby at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801. Despite its significance, transporting this magnificent obelisk to London was not funded by the British government. Originally erected in Heliopolis around 1450 BC under Thutmose III's orders, it stood as a testament to ancient Egyptian culture and antiquities. The image showcases an enchanting black and white view that evokes a sense of timelessness. The vertical composition emphasizes both its architectural grandeur and historical importance. The presence of a sphinx nearby adds another layer to this scene. Located in City Westminster, London England, Cleopatra's Needle stands as an enduring monument that bridges ancient civilizations with modern times. This engraved print serves as a reminder of our rich history and archaeological discoveries that continue to fascinate us today. Duncan1890 has masterfully captured this iconic landmark through intricate illustrations and vector art techniques. It is an exquisite piece suitable for those who appreciate ancient wonders and seek to adorn their spaces with timeless beauty.
