EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases two iconic naval ships from different eras, each with its own fascinating history. On the left, we have the majestic Naval ship Great Harry, also known as Henri Grace a Dieu. Constructed in 1514, this English carrack was Queen Elizabeth I's largest warship during her reign. Sadly, it met a tragic fate when fire consumed it in 1553. The intricate illustration captures the grandeur and power of this vessel that once ruled the seas. On the right side of the print stands Sovereign of the Seas, an impressive 17th-century warship belonging to the English Navy. Originally commissioned as a 90-gun first-rate ship of the line, King Charles II insisted on arming it with 102 bronze guns upon launch. Later renamed HMS Sovereign and then HMS Royal Sovereign after Charles II's restoration to power, this ship symbolizes England's maritime dominance during that era. The original edition of this artwork is sourced from Grafissimo's archives and offers a glimpse into these historical vessels' significance. As you admire this print from Fine Art Storehouse, let your imagination sail back in time to witness these mighty ships commanding authority over vast oceans - testaments to England's naval prowess throughout centuries gone by.
