Fish Furniture

The Dolphin Furniture or Fish Furniture at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, 15th July 1948. Commissioned by John Fish as a memorial to Lord Horatio Nelson and presented by his widow to Greenwich Hospital, it is on loan to the Royal Pavilion as a fine example of Regency design. The torchere at the top is the work of William Collins and depicts scenes from the Battle of Trafalgar and the Apotheosis of Nelson, on a pedestal of carved dolphins and sphinxes. Fish Furniture - A Regency Masterpiece at the Royal Pavilion

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the exquisite Fish Furniture, also known as The Dolphin Furniture, displayed in all its grandeur at the iconic Royal Pavilion in Brighton on July 15th, 1948. Commissioned by John Fish as a tribute to the legendary Lord Horatio Nelson and later presented by his widow to Greenwich Hospital, this remarkable piece stands as a testament to fine Regency design. The centerpiece of this opulent creation is an intricately carved torchere by William Collins. Adorned with scenes from the historic Battle of Trafalgar and the Apotheosis of Nelson, it proudly sits atop a pedestal embellished with beautifully crafted dolphins and sphinxes. Every detail speaks volumes about the skill and artistry of its creators. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are transported back in time to an era where elegance reigned supreme. The ornate vase placed delicately beside a sumptuous sofa adds another layer of sophistication to this scene within the palace walls. It is truly a sight that evokes awe and admiration. On loan to the Royal Pavilion for all admirers of fine craftsmanship, this extraordinary example of furniture design serves as both a historical artifact and an artistic masterpiece. Its presence within these hallowed halls reminds us not only of Lord Nelson's legacy but also pays homage to an era when beauty was celebrated through every stroke and curve.
