Sunrise at Eye of Alabama, Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, California, USA
The Alabama Hills are a range of hills and rock formations near the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in the Owens Valley, west of Lone Pine in Inyo County, California, United States. Though geographically separate from the Sierra Nevada, they are part of the same geological formation. There are two main types of rock exposed at Alabama Hills. One is an orange, drab weathered metamorphosed volcanic rock that is 150-200 million years old. The other type of rock exposed here is 82- to 85-million-year-old biotite monzogranite which weathers to potato-shaped large boulders, many of which stand on end due to spheroidal weathering acting on many nearly vertical joints in the rock

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the breathtaking beauty of a sunrise at Eye of Alabama in Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, California. The Alabama Hills, located near the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in Inyo County, boast a unique geological formation that is part of the same range as the Sierra Nevada itself. The photograph showcases two distinct types of rock formations found in this area. The first type is an ancient orange volcanic rock that has been weathered and transformed over 150-200 million years. Its rugged appearance adds depth and character to the landscape. The second type is biotite monzogranite, which weathers into large potato-shaped boulders standing tall due to spheroidal weathering acting on vertical joints within the rock. As dawn breaks over this picturesque location, vibrant hues paint the sky and illuminate both types of rocks with a warm glow. The combination of nature's elements creates a truly mesmerizing scene that captivates viewers' hearts and minds. This print by Danita Delimont from Fine Art Storehouse allows you to bring home a piece of natural wonder and serenity.
