Bergen Cathedral a cathedral in Bergen municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. It is located in the city of Bergen. The church is the seat of the Bergen domkirke parish and the seat of the Bergen arch-deanery in the Diocese of BjAŝrgvin, the first church was dedicated to -Olav the Holy, Norway patron saint. It was a small parish church and is mentioned in -King Sverres history. The small stone church must have been built by 1150.

Trading in Bergen may have started as early as the 1020s, but the city was not incorporated until approximately 1070. It served as Norways capital in the 13th century, and from the end of the 13th century became a bureau city of the Hanseatic League. Until 1789, Bergen enjoyed exclusive rights to mediate trade between Northern Norway and abroad.
The city of Bergen was traditionally thought to have been founded by king Olav Kyrre, son of Harald HardrAade in 1070 AD, four years after the Viking Age ended
