Special narrow necked amphorae filled with oil were given as prizes for athletics, music etc. This one bears two inscriptions: NIKODEMOS EPOIESEN (Nikodemos made it) and TON ATHENETHEN ATHLON ([Prize] of the Athenian Games). The decoration is attributed to the painter of the wedding procession - on the other side Nike is shown crowning the winner of a boxing match.
