Elijahs sacrifice at Mount Carmel - Bible
3779955 Elijahs sacrifice at Mount Carmel - Bible by Hole, William Brassey (1846-1917); (add.info.: Elijahs sacrifice at Mount Carmel. Fire appears under Elijahs sacrifice.
I Kings 18: 21 -24 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baals prophets are four hundred and fifty men. 23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: 24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken. Illustration by William Hole 1846 - 1917

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the dramatic moment of Elijah's sacrifice at Mount Carmel, as depicted in the Bible. The image showcases a pivotal scene from I Kings 18:21-24, where Elijah challenges the people to choose between following God or Baal. With unwavering conviction, he stands before them and poses a daring test - two bullocks are prepared for sacrifice, one by him and the other by Baal's prophets. Both offerings are laid on wood without any fire underneath. The atmosphere is tense as everyone awaits divine intervention. In this powerful illustration by William Hole (1846-1917), flames suddenly burst forth from under Elijah's sacrifice, symbolizing God's approval and power.
