EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured engraving titled "Strange Birds" showcases the exquisite beauty and diversity of avian species. Created by an anonymous German School artist in the 19th century, this print is a treasure from a private collection. The artwork originates from "A Bilderbuch für Kinder" (Picture Book for Children), published between 1790 and 1830 by Friedrich Justin Bertuch, a renowned figure in literature and art during that era. The image features several remarkable bird species, each with its own unique characteristics. Among them are the strikingly adorned Gehaubte Phibalura, Cuvier's Psaris with its vibrant plumage, and the swallow-like Fruchtfresser known for its fruit-eating habits. Additionally, we can observe the black-headed fruiteater and the Ceylonese Plattschnabel – both fascinating creatures worthy of admiration. The detailed engravings highlight these birds' distinct physical attributes: Phibalura cristata's crest, Psaris Cuvieri's colorful feathers, Procnias hirundinacea's elegant appearance, Procnias melanocephalus' black head markings, and Platyrhynchus Ceylonensis' unique beak structure. This enchanting piece has been preserved through time by ePurix Verlag Volker Christen. As it falls under public domain due to being out of copyright restrictions in Germany where it was created; it continues to captivate viewers today with its intricate details and artistic brilliance
