Coronation, 1905 (oil on canvas)
2956768 Coronation, 1905 (oil on canvas) by Wardle, Arthur (1864-1949); 30.48x40.64 cm; Private Collection; (add.info.: An oil sketch by this superb Edwardian dog painter, of a famous three year old liver/white English pointer bitch named Champion Coronation (Edward VII was crowned in 1902, the year she was whelped). Bred by a Brit, one E. Newbitt, but owned by an American, George Bleistein, she won Best Pointer Bitch at Crufts for the second year running in the year that this was painted, probably commissioned by Bleistein.
" Coronation" came to this country [the US] as the greatest England ever produced, and with such a reputation it was natural that she attracted a great amount of attention. She is a very smoothly made one, not just right in expression, but very clean in shoulders, legs and chest and remarkably well made in loin quarters and stifles.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Arthur Wardle's exquisite oil on canvas painting titled "Coronation, 1905". The artwork measures 30.48x40.64 cm and is part of a private collection. Wardle, known for his exceptional talent in portraying dogs, created this oil sketch featuring the renowned liver/white English pointer bitch named Champion Coronation. Born in 1902, the same year Edward VII was crowned, Coronation was bred by E. Newbitt from Britain but owned by American George Bleistein. This remarkable three-year-old pointer won Best Pointer Bitch at Crufts two years in a row when this painting was commissioned, likely by Bleistein himself. Considered the finest specimen England had ever produced, Coronation made her way to the United States where she garnered immense attention and admiration. Described as flawlessly built with an impeccable expression and clean shoulders, legs, chest, loin quarters, and stifles; she truly embodied perfection. These accolades are documented in "The Pointer and Setter in America" written by AF Hochwalt and published by Sportsmans Review Publishing Co. , Cincinnati in 1911. This stunning photograph of Wardle's masterpiece is brought to you courtesy of The Ms Gallery based in London through their collaboration with Bridgeman Images. It captures every intricate detail of the original oil painting while preserving its historical significance for art enthusiasts worldwide to appreciate and admire for generations to come.
