Nation Patriotic Third Republic Winged

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a detailed view of the Monument to Leon Gambetta, located in the central group of the cour Napoleon at the Louvre. The monument, created in 1888 by Jean Paul Aube, is made of stone and depicts an allegory of Human Rights. It was designed alongside architect Louis Charles Boileau and was inaugurated on July 14th. The photograph showcases a male figure standing tall with wings on his back, symbolizing patriotism and strength. He holds a sword firmly in one hand while proudly waving a flag with the other. This powerful representation embodies the spirit of France during its Third Republic. Unfortunately, during the Vichy Government era, when bronze materials were scarce due to war efforts, this magnificent monument had its bronze elements melted down. However, it was rebuilt in 1982 within Square Edouard Vaillant in Paris' 20th arrondissement. Adolphe Giraudon captured this late 19th-century image that now belongs to French history as an iconic portrayal of national pride and unity. With its intricate details and symbolism representing workers' rights and patriotism, this photograph serves as a reminder of France's rich cultural heritage.
