Case: the bell top with handle flanked by foliate clasped cone finials to the angles, the chamfered angles with fruiting swags issuing from corbels, the arched pierced foliate side frets with gilt banding, raised on leaf scroll feet. Dial: the 5 inch arched dial plate with restored enamel centre dial inscribed for the Turkish market (see footnote) and signed MARKVIK MARKHAM (sic.), later pierced steel trefoil hands, the subsidiary four-tune music selection dial inscribed SABAC HAFIF VKHAC DEVIR A MINUETT A MARCH, with foliate cast spandrels. The small-sized clock, measuring 36x23.5x16.2 cm, is a true masterpiece of English craftsmanship. Fruit swags gracefully drape from corbels on the chamfered corners, while arched pierced foliate side frets add to its intricate beauty. Leaf scroll feet elevate the clock, giving it a regal presence. The dial plate measures 5 inches and boasts restored enamel center dial inscribed for the Turkish market. It proudly bears the signature "MARKVIK MARKHAM" albeit misspelled as "MARWICK". Pierced steel trefoil hands grace the dial along with a subsidiary four-tune music selection dial inscribed in Turkish script. The movement of this remarkable timepiece comprises six ring-turned pillars, triple line fusees, and verge escapement. An hour strike on bell accompanies music every three hours through twelve hammers striking on six bells via a pin barrel mechanism. The backplate of the clock is exquisitely engraved with intricate foliate scrolls and bears the signature "Markwick Markham London".
