8660289 How films are made: Battery of Lamps (colour litho) by English School, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: Battery of Lamps. Lighting plays a very important part in the making of a film, and in addition to the usual white lights, various frosted glass and coloured gelatine diffusers are used, to be switched on as required, to give varying effects and degrees of shadow, etc. Some of the lamps are overhead, others on the ground level, and all are numbered. The chief camera man on the film will then call for certain lamps by number from time to time to get the lighting effect he requires.
